Bounty Hunter metal detector worked great,
I had lost my wedding band while spreading mulch around the house and I decided to try a metal detector to find it before replacing the ring. After doing some research on metal detectors, I decided the Bounty Hunter model was a reasonably priced investment for the search. It was easy to assemble and use and I was able to locate the lost ring after about 15 minutes of searching (I did have a general idea of the location of where the ring had gotten lost and it was only an inch or so under the surface).

|Very nice beginners detector,
This detector is very easy to assemble, adjustable length, comfortable grips, very sensitive and precise. Fun to explore with!
The sound notifications beeps are loud so you will need headphones with it.
I bought a Stereo plug for less than $4.00 which converts 1/8th to 1/4th inch
and allows me to use any regular headphones or earbuds with this

|It Takes Practice,
I bought this device because I needed to find a lost survey pin in an overgrown field. Having now successfully used it, I don’t recommend this model for that purpose. The advertising and product literature included in the product packaging make it clear that the device is designed to aid people looking for lost coins and jewelry. I suspect it would do that job quite well on beach sand, mowed lawn, trail or other relatively clear area, but my assumption that a 1/2″ diameter, 8′ long, steel pin driven vertically into the ground would be easy to detect proved false. The instruction manual recommends sweeping the ground 1/2″ above the surface. That isn’t possible in a field overgrown with brambles. Holding the metal detector above the weeds produced no signal. The only solution was to run survey lines from established coordinates to narrow the search area enough to enable clearing the ground with a sickle before searching with the metal detector. The detector itself is very precise, by which I mean it doesn’t signal the presence of metal unless it is swept directly over the target. That minimizes false positive signals and would be a great attribute for someone combing a beach for lost valuables. It proved to be a disadvantage for my purpose. For finding survey stakes or, I suppose any specific target in a relatively well defined area with less than ideal terrain, I think a device that could detect the presence of metal from a greater distance and either directly indicate the direction to the target or indirectly indicate it by changing the volume or pitch of the alarm based on the strength of the signal would be more useful. All that being said, I did find the lost survey pin 6″-8″ below grade and doubt that I would have found it without a metal detector of some type so it did accomplish the task for which it was purchased–just not as efficiently as I had hoped. I do think this model would work well for treasure hunting in a less rugged environment.

|That is it!!!,
I bought Explorer (ASIN: B000UTLRYE) and this Simple together. Both items look very nice and operate exactly as described. I like the comfort feeling of the headphone coming with Explorer. I gave the Simple one to my son to play with his buddies. I have tried both models, both of them are so simple to learn and easy to use. Unless you want to search gold in NV or CA, these two models do the work really well.

|Good value for price,
Works as advertised and better than the reviews suggest for a similarly priced product. Do wish the directions were more precise and detailed.

|American Hawks Metal Detector,
I purchased this item to locate lost nails/screws/bolts while working on outdoor projects. This detector will not find these items and, therefore, was useless to me. It seems to work ok on other items.
