Bought this for my 11 year old grandson for Xmas. He loves it! The perfect size and weight for a child and the perfect start to a great hobby!

|This item is a toy- accept that fact.,
I bought this item for a steal on Amazon ($35.00 to be exact). I was not happy even at that price and decided to return the product. Don’t get me wrong. I have a budding treasure hunter (8 years) and she was thrilled by the ability to throw coins on the lawn and find them. However, after repeated tests I determined the max depth at which any metal object could be reliably detected was 2-3 inches in soft earth. We took this item to the beach and found it completely worthless beyond what I term an “imagination toy.”
After extensive research, it appears spending anything less than $150.00 will keep you in the toy category despite claims contrary. As a toy, and at $35.00, perhaps it has a function.
Some specific observations:
-Item is made of mostly cheap plastic and cheap metal (pole is metal). The battery cover would not stay secure (requires 2 9 volt batteries) and the batteries bounce around inside the handle (annoying).
-All the nuts and bolts on this item are poorly fitted and made of cheap material. Therefore, when you adjust the pole (for height) or adjust the detector (angle) they will not stay in place.
-No volume adjustment.
-Did not receive the coin collector items in my box.
-Kids enjoyed the “process” of treasure hunting regardless of the aforementioned issues.
If you insist on buying this item, wait for a price drop of around $40.00 and accept this is a toy.

|A nice Toy.,
I was not impressed with this item. I bought this and the national geographic metal detector so my two young daughters could go metal detecting with me. I bought this one for my older daughter and the less expensive national geographic one for my younger daughter since I didn’t want to spend a great deal on something that might break.
Surprisingly, The bounty hunter item really didn’t seem to signal items nearly as often as the less expensive national geographic detector. I would have been happy with it if I had purchased two, but when compared side by side with the national geographic detector (which looks more like a toy), I was disappointed with the performance as was my daughter. We gave up using this item and they took turns with the national geographic one.

|Gold Digger Metal Detector,
After looking at some expensive units in local stores I decided to start with this one. I had also read the manuals for the various Bounty Hunter models at http://www.detecting.com, and this one seemed to have the options I wanted. The Bounty Hunter brand seemed reasonably priced for the features.
It’s well made and easy to use. Used it quite a bit on a recent camping trip, and the two 9-volt batteries still have plenty of life left in them, and I mostly ran it with the speaker rather than the headphones.
It is light and easy to carry and swing back and forth. With the “Trash Eliminator” control set all the way down it has no trouble finding even very small metal items, as low as 6″ deep. In an area with many nails, turning up the “Trash Eliminator” seems to create a different toned beep for silver or gold, though I notice that aluminum pop tops were hard to eliminate. If I were looking for artifacts made of iron in an isolated area I would turn the Trash Eliminator off completely so as to not miss anything.
Again, the Gold Digger can really find things. It seems to have a smaller coil than some, perhaps making it capable of finding smaller items. It also seems to pinpoint well. I had no trouble locating the exact spot by simply passing the coil over a few times. Within the first 10 minutes I found an old compass, oddly enough of a type I used to have when I was a kid. I did find a lot of nails, some of them very old. Sometimes it would beep along a straight line making me think I had found a long iron object, but it turned out to be a length of wire. But I’m impressed that it didn’t miss anything.
Not bad for the price. I wish I’d had one of these long ago. Now I need to go back to some of the remote places I’ve been to and do some detecting. It’s a great way to pass the time.

|Works like a charm!!,
I’ve used this metal detector a coupleof times already and I have been able to located certain areas of where possible items maybe hidden underground. The Trash Eliminator is perfect for really trying not to dig up a soda can or anything else that wouldn’t be surprise to the detector. I have found areas where I have gotten strong readings… I just forgot to buy a shovel. opps

|great gift idea,
product claimed to be made in the USA, very important to me. Bought it as a gift, so my use of it was limited, however I put it together and took it about the yard and everything went OK. I think it was a very good pick, for the money~~
